Responsibilities
 

• To act as the principal support for the Credit Risk function covering Italy.
• Deputise in the absence of the Credit Risk Policy Leader.
• Review lender referrals and make final underwriting decision by informing the lender.
• Identify and evaluate trends in the underwriting quality, assess potential impact and recommend actions.
• Support the conducting of external customer audits as part of a regular programme including the review of non-performing loans against agreed arrears and collection procedures.
• Analyse audit trends and summarize results for internal and external presentation.
• Understand and monitor the housing markets across Italy.
• Support the Credit Risk Policy Manager in due diligence as part of new country approval and new deals.
• Analyse lender portfolios and support Risk in London in the production of regular portfolio reporting.
• Support the Credit Risk Policy Manager in the development and monitoring of credit policy.
• Support the business expansion in the Italian market, establish and maintaining appropriate credit policy best practices.
• Be a prime source of credit policy expertise to facilitate customer negotiations and ongoing business reviews.
• Understand and develop Master Policies across Italy.
• Make recommendations to the Credit Risk Policy Manager and Risk in London where any aspect differs from the country standard and oversee any amendments.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with the internal Business functions (Risk, Operations, IT, Finance, Loss Mitigation and Sales).
• Support the delivery of internal and external customer needs with regard to credit policy.
• Provide Risk support to the business.
• Provides informal and formal underwriting training as required.
• Mentors less experienced underwriting personnel on market conditions, competitors, relationship management.
• Meets all file documentation standards, complies with underwriting and authority level.
• Responsible for conducting regular and periodic underwriting self-review.

Education & Experience
 

• Good underwriting knowledge, strong experience in mortgage lending underwriting
• Strong team player with an ability to take proactive initiatives in a team or individual environment
• Ability to think logically and make recommendations often on incomplete or conflicting information
• Good interpersonal and communication skills both internally and externally and a flexible approach to deal with ad-hoc tasks
• Ability to work accurately and quickly
• MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency
• Strong presentation skills, both written and oral
• Fluent in English
