Role Purpose
We are looking to strengthen our control environment with the addition of a Derivatives & Controls Analyst within the Derivative Services team. The objective of the Derivatives Services team is to mitigate the risk associated with OTC derivatives processing and valuation, throughout the lifecycle of each trade.
This is achieved by consolidating key derivatives controls within one department and through the on-going development of our strategic OTC derivatives platform. This will ensure we have a robust end-to-end OTC derivatives environment on which to grow our business.
The role combines a blend of operational and project work. The role holder will have the ability to drive forward our systems, procedures and reporting requirements to meet current and future requirements of the business.
The operational aspects of the role involve OTC derivatives valuation, troubleshooting and periodic reporting.
From a projects perspective, the role holder will be involved in:
- Ensuring that the Derivatives Services team and other related teams are set up to accommodate new OTC instruments – from both a technical knowledge, system and procedural perspective
- Planning, testing and implementing SLI’s strategic platform and operating model for OTC derivatives
- Identifying Derivatives Services internal processes that can benefit from efficiency gains and working with Business Technology/IT to deliver such improvements. These are required to ensure scalability in OTC Derivatives operations.
Good communication and relationship building skills are required for managing relationships with front office, outsourced providers, counterparties, regulators, trustees and a number of other internal departments.
This is a technically demanding role which will provide the successful candidate with an in-depth knowledge of the OTC derivatives environment. We invest heavily in derivative operations staff and this opportunity provides excellent long term career prospects.
Key Outcomes
- Completion of derivative trading control checks.
- Completion of both daily and monthly OTC derivatives valuation checks.
- Development and maintenance of complex OTC derivative valuation models.
- Articulation of complex derivative valuation models to internal and external auditors and other interested parties
- Working with SLI’s Business Technology and IS teams to specify, test and implement both internal and external reporting requirements.
- Provision of consultancy services to other internal business teams in respect of OTC derivatives technical knowledge and Regulatory/Compliance requirements
- Liaison with Front Office, performance measurement, other operations departments, group finance and third party providers in respect of OTC Derivatives queries
- Provide business analysis skills in respect of the following:
- Development and implementation of a scalable strategic OTC derivatives platform and operating model
- Implementation of new OTC instruments
- Gathering of Derivatives Services team requirements (both technology and process) to support new instruments
- Specification, development and testing of new procedures/platform changes that are required to support new instruments
- Development and roll out of procedures to support new OTC instrument
- Identification and implementation of efficiency gains in existing OTC Derivatives Services processes
Knowledge
- OTC Derivative Operations experience (preferable) or a desire and ability to develop a detailed knowledge of OTC Derivatives instruments
- Detailed derivative valuation methodologies or a desire and ability to develop a detailed knowledge of OTC Derivatives instruments
- Good understanding of the Investments Operations environment – Middle or Back office
- Good understanding of Front and Back Office investment systems
