To support our ability to test, operate, monitor and troubleshoot a server farm of real-time trading and market data feed systems we are currently hiring for the role of Real-Time Trading Operations.

Quantlab is a dynamic, technology-oriented firm engaged in the development and operation of electronic trading systems for its proprietary hedge fund trading operation. Founded in 1998, Quantlab is responsible for a significant share of the daily volume traded in the global financial markets and represents an established presence in the high frequency electronic trading field.

To support our continued growth, we are seeking a Real-Time Trading Operations Engineer.

Essential responsibilities of this position include:

• Monitor trading systems in the following schedule: three weeks monitoring from 7 AM to 4 PM on site (Monday - Friday) and then the three weeks monitoring from 6 PM 10:30 AM (Sunday - Friday) (8 AM 11 AM on site and the rest on call). NOTE: This schedule might change as the team grows.

• Respond to and resolve alerts and other notifications from our trading systems.

• Create workaround procedures or hot fixes when standard procedures have failed and ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.

• Escalate urgent problems requiring more in-depth knowledge to appropriate internal resources.

• Troubleshoot application and system failures and other problems.

• Support our trading and IT teams in resolving system issues.

• Work with our development and QA staff in testing, configuring, staging and deploying new systems to production.

• Work with customers of our broker-dealer affiliate, and ECNs and exchanges, in testing and bringing online new connectivity to us.

• Ensure that we maintain all interfaces with external vendors, each with its own way of operating.

Essential requirements of this position include:

• Expertise in at least one major scripting language (Awk, Perl, Python, etc.)

• Demonstrable ability at configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting proprietary software

• Experience of working with and supporting development, staging and production environments

• Ability to work well with data under time constraints, to extract information in appropriate reports

• Excellent spoken and written communication skills

• Bachelors level degree in computer science or other science subject

• Ability to formulate and communicate creative solutions to complex problems

• Ability to work in a team environment

Prior experience of working in the financial industry is advantageous but not essential. Full training in our systems will be given.

Quantlab is located in Houston, Texas – a city recently recognized by Business Week (June 12, 2008) and Kiplinger.com (May 29, 2008) as a best city to “live, work and play”.

Quantlab offers a top-notch compensation package -- including an aggressive pay-for-performance bonus program, generous medical and paid time off benefits, relocation subsidies that may be “cashed-out” and an informal, small-company work environment.  So if you are tired of working at a place where the traders get paid - but the engineers are treated as interchangeable parts - Quantlab wants to talk to you.   It’s easy to apply – simply submit your cover letter and resume
